Hollis Court is a well-regarded retirement living development that was built in 2011 by McCarthy & Stone. The building consists of 49 one and two bedroom apartments which is spread over three levels.
Seddon was appointed to undertake painting and decorating works in a variety of areas including corridors, staircases, guest bedrooms, toilets, kitchen and offices. Painting works were undertaken by roller to ceilings, walls, skirtings, door frames, windows and pipework and by brush to all other areas.
The lounge and dining rooms, which remained operational for breakfast and lunch times were specified for existing papers to be stripped and new Tektura wall coverings applied. Our team overcame this challenge by splitting the working zones and adapting our working times so the facilities still could be operational when required.
External painting consisted of using good quality opaque finishes to benches, doors, frames and timberwork. Due to the poor condition, the surfaces were fully abraded, feathering back all edges to provide a sound key in which to apply the products by brush application. All demarcation lines to the car park were refreshed by using both yellow and white road marking paint.
External pathways, brickwork, coping stones, cills and lintels were cleaned using the DOFF system. The DOFF system is a low pressure clean that uses little water which is heated within the equipment up to 150 degrees and sent through the lines as steam which removes all moss, algae, litchen and carbon from not only the surfaces but from within the stonework.
All cleaning and painting works were undertaken via steps, ladders and MEWPs in compliance with the Seddon Management System. The garden areas to the rear and side of the property had to be protected using track matts so the MEWP access without damaging the gardens.
Due to the size of the development and Hollis Court having multiple levels, we agreed with the customer that handover of each area following completion would be beneficial.
