Social Responsibility

At Seddon, we have always put people first, and have worked hard to embed sustainability into the core of business operations to create shared value for business and society.

Our commitment goes beyond ethical workplace practices and environmental efficiencies. We work with our own people and the communities we serve, to make sure we channel our activities where they are wanted and needed the most, helping to effect positive lasting change in the communities where we live and work.

Our Approach

We have a great business because of the open and no-nonsense way we do business; The Seddon Way. It matters to us that everybody takes pride in what Seddon achieves in a manner that builds on our history, values and cultures.

  • Our People - Provide a stable working environment where everyone; our employees, customers, supply chain and local communities feel rewarded and treated with integrity and respect; like a family.
  • Our Planet - Take Responsibility; always acting ethically by doing the right thing regardless of personal consequence.
  • Our Partners - Inspire loyalty through long term decision making to continue Seddon’s legacy - rather than looking at short term gains

Jordan's Conversation

In September 2017, painter and decorator Jordan Bibby took his life. He was 25 years old, and a much-loved colleague, friend, brother and son.

His passing deeply affected everyone here at Seddon, as work colleagues were left shocked and saddened that they were unable to spot the signs that Jordan was struggling and that he needed help; help that would have come in abundance had he reached out.

Men working in the construction industry are at the highest risk of suicide, with suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 50.

Working with registered charity, Mates in Mind, Seddon have launched Jordan’s Conversation, a toolbox talk designed to raise awareness of mental health, and have created a team of mental health first aiders, trained to recognise the signs that colleagues may be struggling and need help.

Devotion

In a period which the construction industry has faced so many challenges, Seddon continue to invest in social responsibility. I’m often asked why do we continue to do so?

The reason is that we have been engaged in our communities for over 125 years and its something we have always done. We won’t think short term, and believe its an investment in the future; the future of our people, our customers, our stakeholders and the industry.

When we work together for a common purpose we can achieve great things. I hope that this document enables us all to celebrate the things we have achieved together.

Well done and thank you to you all.

Nicola Hodkinson.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan

Our Carbon Reduction Strategy sets out how we are going to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions over the next few years. We are working smartly with our supply chain, people in our communities, businesses, local councils, interest groups and government to stimulate innovation, creativity and inclusivity, continually challenging the way we do things.
