In early 2016 Seddon delivered the design and construction of a 279m2 retail store to be operated by the Co-operative Group.
The new retail unit was built on a former allotment adjacent to the operational Ty Fry Inn public house. Significant effort was given to maintaining a positive relationship with Ty Fry Inn, the adjacent councillor and local residents. Deliveries were restricted to certain times to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum, and resident satisfaction was continued.
In September 2016 Seddon successfully completed the new build works for a new Co-op store on behalf of New River Retail. Completed over a 15 week period, works comprised the design and build of a new retail property.
The project was a base build that we had to hand over to the Co-op ready for fit-out including installation of provision for all incoming services. The main construction elements included strip footings/pad foundations, supporting steelwork with a traditional brick/block construction, ground floor slab, rendered feature panels, new shop fronts/ doors, natural slate roof tiles, and external hard landscaping and fencing.
New River Retails objectives for the project included creating a positive impact during the construction works, achieving Practical Completion on time and budget with minimal defect items at handover. This was achieved and similar to previous schemes is evidenced by the repeat business we receive from New River Retail.
During the construction phase, there was a number of constraints that had to be considered, these included working within a residential area so our working hours were reduced to 8-4 pm daily; the new Co-op was in close proximity to the Ty Fry Inn; and throughout the works, Seddon liaised on a regular basis with the Inn’s tenants in order to cause minimal disruption to the day to day running of their business; environmental issues such as noise, and dust were carefully considered and monitored.
