SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH WORK EXPERIENCE, WREXHAM

Overview

Work experience is a critical factor in achieving success in today’s competitive job market. In fact, it plays a significant role in helping your CV stand out from the crowd and catching the attention of potential employers. Employers increasingly value practical experience, as it demonstrates a candidate's ability to apply knowledge in real-world settings. The more handson experience you gain, the more attractive and valuable you become as a candidate for future roles. This is especially important in industries that require specialized skills, such as law, engineering, and healthcare, where experience can often make the difference between landing a job and being overlooked.

While studying at school, college, or university equips you with the academic knowledge and theoretical foundations necessary to succeed in your field, it’s important to remember that there’s a whole world of practical, on-the-job skills that cannot be learned in a classroom. These include problem-solving, communication, time management, teamwork, and adaptability—skills that are essential in any profession. In fact, many employers look for candidates who have not only the academic qualifications but also the ability to handle the practical challenges that come with the job. Gaining experience in a professional working environment is a powerful way to build these skills and prepare yourself for future success. Moreover, participating in work experience can have a profound impact on your confidence.

Take, for example, Lily Wheatley from Wrexham North Wales, who reached out to us in September 2024. Lily had plans to apply for a Law Degree at university in 2025, but before submitting her application, she wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the legal field. She believed that this hands-on experience would help her decide which specific area of law to pursue and ensure that her career path was a well-informed choice.

In October 2024, Lily completed a work experience placement at our head office in Bolton, within the Legal Team. During her time with us, she was able to immerse herself in the day-today workings of a legal environment, gaining exposure to a range of legal processes and tasks. This experience not only provided her with valuable insights into the different aspects of law but also helped her to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in her future legal studies and career. Lily’s decision to seek out work experience before committing to a degree was a proactive and insightful move, one that will undoubtedly serve her well in her future endeavours. Good luck, Lily!
