Local Talent, Lasting Impact

Overview

The construction industry is a vital driver of economic growth, playing a key role in tackling both economic and social challenges. Employing around three million people—approximately 10% of the UK workforce—the sector’s job creation strongly supports local economies. To meet rising demand and replace those retiring or leaving the industry, construction will need to recruit around 43,000 new workers every year over the next five years.

By hiring locally, contractors not only boost regional economies but also strengthen community ties, fostering collaboration and pride in the projects they deliver.

Hannah Heald

Hannah Heald, is a great example of this impact. While studying Construction in the Built Environment at Cronton Sixth Form College in Widnes, Hannah had the opportunity to take part in a site visit with Seddon, where she developed a keen interest in the construction industry. Her enthusiasm and curiosity led to a two-week work placement, during which she impressed the team with her strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, and positive attitude.

As a result of her outstanding performance, Hannah was offered a permanent role as a Trainee Site Manager through Seddon’s annual Apprentice Recruitment Programme.

Hannah is now part of the Three Sails Point Project, a development close to her home, where she’s making a meaningful contribution to her local community. She was one of 16 apprentices recruited by Seddon in 2025—a record intake that also marked a milestone in female representation within the programme.

This opportunity has accelerated Hannah’s personal and professional growth, helping her build confidence in meetings, improve communication with site teams and suppliers, and balance her workload effectively alongside her studies. Hannah plans to complete her Site Management degree with Seddon over the next three years.

Welcome to the team, Hannah!
