This split-site extension to the existing St Thomas C of E was the first project to be awarded through the re-appointed North West Construction Hub Framework.
This was the first project awarded to Seddon via the 2014 NWCH and was an excellent opportunity to showcase our capabilities. The award was a high profile scheme for SMBC who had serious concerns due to a number of recent school projects running over budget/ over programme. Our preconstruction team alleviated all concerns before commencement and the client was suitably impressed to proceed to contract award.
The works included the construction of a two storey, three form entry junior department for 360 pupils aged between 7 and 11.
The new building consists of 12 classrooms, an intervention room, community room, 180m2 cushioned vinyl floor hall, full production kitchen along with the main reception and office space. The new building also benefits from a large learning resource area which can be used as an adaptable space for teaching, library facilities and IT learning. A unique feature of this project was the provision of extensive external hard and soft play areas and sports pitches, the design of which was influenced by the pupils themselves.
The contract was run in a clean and organised manner, with delivery coordination or lay down zones clearly agreed, allowing for efficient running/daily management of the project and the reduction of on-site conflict/issues. Achieving safe site of the Quarter for January to April was validation of the efforts made by all involved in the planning and execution of the project.
Karen Morris, Head TeacherSeddon have so far proved to be flexible and informative. They have listened well and taken account of our needs. Our Project Manager, Jon Hulley has been exemplary and has ensured that we are kept informed at each stage as well as explaining any technicalities we need to be aware of. We have felt that Seddon understood the need to complete on time and have driven the project forward well. Time appears to have been well used and decisions involving us discussed and agreed sufficiently in advance. Where procurement of materials has been tricky the matter has been raised in plenty of time and alternatives discussed and agreed. Our children have been involved in the project and have been welcomed onto the site several times for planned events. Our overriding impression is of a friendly company who seek to complete work they are proud of and who are always mindful of the end users- our school children and staff.
