This project included the refurbishment of multi-storey car park in Leicester City Centre secured through Leicester City Council’s construction framework.
Works involve extensively repairing and revamping the ageing building, including re-laying large areas of the top floor outdoor deck and installing a weatherproof covering, drainage improvements, and structural repairs to the concrete and brickwork. New payment machines, better lighting, new electrics and improved CCTV will be installed to make the car park safer and faster for customers to use, along with new ANPR cameras. In addition, new surface-level pedestrian walkways will also be installed, along with new lines, signs and new larger parking bays.
The project has been split into several phases, the first of which will see the top deck closed to the public to allow the work to get underway. To ensure high levels of safety and to ensure a positive experience for motorists, parking will still be available in spaces on the covered lower level during the works.
Signage will be updated regularly to advise users about the phasing of the project, availability of spaces and routes within the car park.
The improvements on the top deck are due to be completed by late autumn 2019, after which it will reopen for public parking. Work then shifts to the covered level below, meaning some spaces on that floor will be unavailable while the repairs are carried out. The whole programme of works is expected to be completed by November 2019.
Out of hours working has been arranged between 6pm and 3am to undertake works on the ramps and the main routes of access and egress to ensure the car park can remain operational. Our team are working collaboratively with Shaylor, another contractor who are undertaking asbestos removal works on the top deck. Regular meetings ensure that both companies are aware of upcoming works.
Mark Govan, project officer for Leicester City Council“Seddon was on-site for the Haymarket project from May to December 2019. Any issues were quickly and effectively resolved, and the works were completed to a high standard. The team was also brilliant when it came to helping and advising the public; Haymarket is one of the busiest parking areas in the city, so it's not been easy while the project has been ongoing. However, the Seddon team helped to make the process as seamless as possible.”
