Darley Abbey Village Hall is a much-loved hub of the Darley Abbey community, used by local residents for a variety of activities including yoga, amateur dramatics, dog training and the village panto.
The refurbishment on Darley Abbey Village Hall for Derby City Council consisted of re-roofing works and the formation of a new electrical storage cupboard.
The team added an Alumasc system to the half pitched and half flat roof on the village hall as well as replacing the timber at the gable end with barge board to add strength and protection to the building.
There was a new roof covering put onto the flat roof and new metal fixings to the pitched roof. As well as this the new electrical storage cupboard in the cellar required a stud wall and fire door to comply with regulations.
Risks
The main potential risk of this project was the location of the site, as it was next to a busy playing fields. The team put security fencing round the building in order to alleviate any vandalism. This meant the team had no issues and were able to stick to the agreed programme.
The roof works were completed through winter months which meant there was a potential challenge this could cause disruption and delay the programme. However, the team carefully planned to mitigate the winter weather and the project was completed on time.
Challenges
The project was to be completed during the day as the village hall was used during the evenings. Before the end of the day the team needed to create a clean and safe environment for the building users.
The team worked closely with the end user and working round their schedule to make sure the building could still be used as the works were being completed.
