MKM Builders Merchant, Sharston Seddon Developments

£2.5M Contract Sum
29 Duration (Weeks)

Seddon successfully delivered the design and construction of a new industrial unit, complete with associated external works, access road and utility services.

The industrial unit included a small product showroom, accommodation block, comprising offices and welfare facilities and a warehouse storage facility. A mezzanine level above the showroom and offices provided additional storage space, which addressed the requirements of MKM Builders Merchants.

The project saw the creation of MKM’s 46th branch and formed a key part of the 21-year-old Hull-based business plans to expand into the North West. The new branch also supported their expansion into the interior design market as part of their future development. The new branch houses their acclaimed product portfolio, catering to the trade and public. This included building, plumbing, joinery, heating, insulation and plasterboard products as well as a state of the art kitchen and bathroom showroom. Built on the site of a former food processing plant by the M56 near Stockport, the steel framed building, warehouse and showroom combined, provides a total floor area of circa 1,394m². The mezzanine level provides an additional 381m². Elevational treatment including brickwork to mezzanine level, and composite cladding to the external walls and roof. Internally we provided the showroom facilities and working collaboration with our direct mechanical workforce we provided mechanical installations to both the front of house and storage areas.

The project was the first in Seddon history to achieve 100% in our QCE audit, demonstrating good understanding of the Seddon Management System; good co-ordination of environmental risks and communication with subcontractors. Consequently, the site team were also awarded the Seddon Safe Site of the Quarter award. The project was registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme, and we were praised for our site logistics, layout of pedestrian movement on site and the appearance of the site the busy A560 running at the front of the site. Additionally we also managed works adjacent to rail networks, businesses and neighbours, providing regular communication and newsletters.

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN WELL PLANNED FROM PRE-CONSTRUCTION, IN ORDER TO FACILITATE AN ORGANISED AND WELL LAID OUT SITE WITH ACCOMMODATION TO SET THE RIGHT TONES AND PERCEPTION TO EVERYONE
