The Grade II Listed Westhoughton Town Hall is located in Bolton, Greater Manchester. The external works Seddon delivered are part of a wider works package to the upgrade of the Town Hall.
This project consisted of the external refurbishment of the full building including window replacement to match the original fittings whilst providing the modern
benefits.
Repairs and decoration to existing features, masonry cleaning and repairs throughout the red brick building, replacement of rainwater goods alongside the replacement and maintenance works to the existing roof coverings.
The roofing works included full re-tiling, utilising a portion of existing slates and the provision of new Welsh Slate to supplement. The cupola and clock tower also had an extensive masonry repair and cleaning and a new flag pole was installed. All works were completed from an external scaffold designed to fit the building.
These works were undertaken during the outbreak of COVID-19. The Site remained operational throughout the pandemic, adhering to the Site Operating procedures. This ensured that the working methodology was amended to adhere to social distancing.
An intensive cleaning regime was implemented as well as the deployment of hygiene stations around the project, along with Coronavirus (COVID 19) signage at entry points and around the site and welfare facilities to remind others to adhere to new hygiene and social distancing policies.
