Seddon joined businesses and community partners from across Greater Manchester for a charity football tournament on Friday 9 October, helping to raise £13,500 for Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity (GMMC).
The charity works to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness across Greater Manchester, providing vital support to some of the city-region’s most vulnerable people.
Bringing together businesses and supporters with a shared love of football and a commitment to tackling homelessness, the annual fundraising event saw 21 teams compete, alongside a raffle with a range of prizes on offer.
Held at FIVES Trafford, more than 200 people attended the event, which raised £2,500 more than last year’s tournament.
Seddon’s Land and Partnerships Director, Joe Farrer, is an official ambassador for GMMC, with the event providing an opportunity to build on Seddon’s ongoing relationship with the charity and support its work across Greater Manchester.
One of GMMC’s most prominent projects, ‘A Bed Every Night’, was launched in 2018 to provide emergency accommodation and support to people sleeping rough.
Funds raised from the tournament will go towards similar initiatives, helping to establish more spaces, aid frontline responders, and support people at risk of homelessness.
Joe Farrer, Land and Partnerships Director at Seddon, said:
“It’s been brilliant to see everyone come together to support GMMC and the essential work they do. The money raised will provide those sleeping rough with the incremental steps towards getting off the streets for good and rebuilding their lives, working towards putting an end to homelessness in Greater Manchester.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the impact these funds make and continuing to champion the important work GMMC do.”
Anne Rhind, CEO of Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, said:
“Events like this are a crucial part of our fundraising calendar. The money raised will help us continue to fund our A Bed Every Night scheme, which is particularly important during winter when harsh weather conditions put people sleeping rough at greater risk.”
Tim Heatley, Chairman of Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, said:
“This year we have raised £13,500 which is an amazing result. With that money, we can make a huge difference. ‘A Bed Every Night’ means we can provide a wraparound support package to people who would otherwise be sleeping on the streets of Greater Manchester.
“They get a bed, food, drink, a shower and all sorts of other mental health support to get them off the street and back into society.”
