New apprentices make a positive impact at Heathfield Primary School through community volunteering day
Bolton, 21/08/26 – Seddon has welcomed 17 newly appointed apprentices to the business with a Community Day at Heathfield Primary School in Bolton, giving the group the opportunity to develop practical skills while making a positive contribution to the local community.
The apprentices worked alongside Seddon’s site team at the school, where the contractor is installing a new heating system and carrying out maintenance and repair works during the summer holidays.
Building skills through community action
As part of the day, the apprentices carried out a range of improvements to the school’s outdoor spaces, including clearing waste land, preparing areas for planting and applying topsoil and seed.
The group also cleared weeds from the astroturf area, painted a chalkboard, refurbished two existing planters and created a new sandpit for pupils to enjoy when they return to school.
The day provided an opportunity for the apprentices to put teamwork and practical skills into action while seeing first-hand how construction projects can deliver benefits beyond the physical works.
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Rabiya Jiva, said:
“This project is an outstanding example of how the council is working with partners to give all children and young people in Bolton the best possible start in life.
“The work carried out by Seddon will make a real difference for pupils at Heathfield Primary School, creating the right environment for them to learn and reach their full potential.
“It was also valuable experience for our local apprentices, as they start their journey on a fulfilling and rewarding career.”
Emma Taylor, Site Manager/Playcare Manager at Heathfield Primary School, said: “The work undertaken by Seddon apprentices during their Community Volunteering Day with us has already made a real difference to our school.
“The impact on the whole school community, while saving our school team countless hours of hard work, is invaluable. It was fantastic to see the Seddon team in action and meet the new apprentices as they begin their career journeys.
“The atmosphere throughout the day was brilliant, and the school was already looking so much clearer as a result of their hard work. It’s a pleasure to work with such a fantastic team. Thank you to everyone involved for making such a positive difference to our school community.”
