Overview
The Gateway is Coventry’s primary homeless residence, housing people from a range of backgrounds. As well as accommodation, it also offers access to training and mental health support. Seddon volunteers got their hands dirty revamping a community garden, painting fences and garden furniture and planting shrubbery.
Social Value outcome
The run-down communal garden was completely transformed and will now be used to host to social gatherings and communal activities, such as a residents gardening group.
“Communal spaces are vital in delivering a safe and inclusive environment to our residents. Covid was challenging for everyone, particularly those vulnerable with poor mental and physical health. The loss of this outdoor space meant residents were isolated, so to have it refurbished and reopened is a huge boost for Gateway residents”.
