Refurbishment of sport and healthcare facilities at the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall Campus following a £6 million funding boost from the Office for Students (OfS) to significantly invest in improving facilities.
Seddon was directly awarded this two-stage project through the Pagabo refit and refurbishment framework. The project was split between two buildings on the live Walsall Campus, the Sister Dora Building and the William Penny Brookes Building which house the University’s School of Allied Health and Midwifery (SAH) and the School of Sport (SoS). The aim of the works was to overhaul existing facilities, creating a revitalised performance gym and a suite of learning spaces to offer a suite of modern, state-of-the-art skills-based teaching facilities.
Works at the Sister Dora building encompassed refurbishments to four classrooms, including general building works, decorations and the installation of fixtures. The works at the William Penny Brookes building included the refurbishment of a swimming pool, which incorporated the infill of the swimming pool and the installation of a new mezzanine, alongside internal decoration work. We also converted the existing swimming pool changing rooms into classrooms and one refurbishment of an existing classroom.
This resulted in the establishment of a state-of-the-art performance laboratory, Physiotherapy and Health Scan laboratories, Prehab Rehabilitation, Strength and Conditioning Suites, and Circulation Space. These new facilities were designed to support a wide range of activities related to health and wellness. The campus remained live throughout the construction period and ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing activities while maintaining safety was paramount. We maintained close communication with the campus management to align our programme with their academic calendar, ensuring minimal disruption to the daily operations of the university.
The project was completed on time and within budget, with zero disruption to the daily operations of the University.
