Seddon has created a major new science and discovery centre at Eureka! Mersey in the Liverpool City Region with an overall project budget of over £11m, which includes the exhibition fit-out and other associated costs. The total measured work budget for the base build contract is £4m.
The works at Eurkea! Science + Discovery was completed over a number of phases to both the terminal and attraction buildings. The works consisted of the soft strip out, non structural remodelling of an existing Grade II Listed terminal building and an attraction building – shell and core only. We also fully modified and adapted the M&E services, provided soft flooring and joinery with reception desks and counters.
External works where carried out in phases to maintain access through the site at all times and to allow for the bus drop off/bus stops. The project came with a number of challenges, the biggest was the development and refurbishment of a building that was over 100 years old. This lead to daily challenges due to the condition of some work areas and how we could find the best solution for the project. Collaboration was key amongst all parties involved to overcome any challenges, incorporating fortnightly meetings was key to encourage open discussions ensuring the successful delivery of the project.
The new state-of-the-art attraction is expected to attract almost 200,000 visitors a year, providing a fun, immersive and interactive learning experience for children of all ages.
