Work has commenced on constructing a new main entrance at Northampton General Hospital using modular building solutions.
Delivered for Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust in partnership with specialist developer noviniti, Seddon is helping to build a new 870 sq. m. entrance facility that will provide additional and welcome amenities for patients, staff and visitors.
Other project partners include modular construction specialist, Catfoss Ltd, and healthcare retail provider, Compass Group UK & Ireland.
The entrance will comprise a new main reception desk, a Patient Advice and Liaison Service and a suite of public washrooms.
On-site patient amenities will include Costa Coffee, M&S Simply Food, Subway and The Stock Shop.
Seddon and noviniti are also carrying out an extensive infrastructure works improvement package, including landscaping, the diversion and relocation of the existing roadway and improvements to nearby car-parking areas.
These works will improve access to the hospital for staff, visitors and patients and allow for the construction of a planned future intensive care unit adjoining the development.
Due to open in May 2021, the new main entrance will greatly enhance patient, visitor and staff experiences.
John Shannon, divisional director at Seddon, said: "It’s great to be working with noviniti and the team at Northampton General Hospital on this project, which will improve the retail offering and space available for patients, staff and visitors. Works are progressing well and we look forward to handing the transformed space back to the Trust in the New Year."
Jonathan Houlston, COO of noviniti, said: “We are delighted that this scheme is finally on-site following more than two years of planning and discussion with the Trust team. We are very much looking forward to working with our partners, Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and Compass Group UK&I, as well as our construction teams at Seddon and Catfoss Ltd.”
Stuart Finn, director of estates and facilities at Northampton General Hospital, said: “We are really excited to be building a new entrance to the hospital site to create a better experience for our staff, patients and visitors. This new development will provide us with more space than our existing entrance and means that we can also offer a new range of retail outlets for people to enjoy.”
He continued: “These plans have been in progress for a long time so it’s incredibly exciting to see the building work starting on-site and to be able to share the plans with our community.”
Andy Jones, managing director of healthcare retail at Compass Group UK & Ireland, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and look forward to working in partnership with Northampton General Hospital and noviniti to deliver a great new space and high-quality retail offering for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.”
