Seddon successfully delivered the refurbishment and alterations of the 80-bed student Halls of Residence building located in a central university campus environment.
Seddon was awarded this JCT Intermediate Building Contract 2011 for the refurbishment and alterations of 80 student bedrooms, 8 of which were re-carpeted and re-decorated only, 40 en-suite shower rooms and communal areas.
The Dobree Halls of Residence forms part of Charles Morris Hall campus which includes three complexes, Storm Jameson Court, and two smaller refurbished annexes, Dobree and Whetton Houses. Most rooms in Dobree and Whetton Houses have single beds and share a bathroom with one other person.
Works involved stripping out of the existing building along with minor building work, general repairs, installation of new partitions, new shower cubicles, WC’s, washbasins and IPS, the fitting of new doors which provided an access control mechanism and suspended ceilings to shower rooms, new floor coverings, redecoration and mechanical and electrical alterations.
The refurbishment works were programmed to be carried out within a 12-week period, during the Summer break ensuring minimal disruption to student residents and University activities.
The design was client led and the scheme as a whole provided the opportunity for two apprentices to develop their construction skills.
