Set in the heart of Wilmslow, on the site of former council offices, this design and build project for Pegasus Life will see the construction of 57 luxury apartments and adjoining facilities. In an effort to increase the provision of living space for elderly people, Chapelwood will include one, two and three-bedroom apartments in two, four-storey red-brick pavilions, designed in the style of the local Victorian mansions

The apartments are designed to have an open-plan layout, allowing natural light to spread through the rooms, with private balconies and terraces adjoining the living areas and providing views over the grounds. Specialist on-site facilities include a sauna, gym, hydrotherapy pool, treatment rooms and a deli café. 

During the pre-construction period, the Seddon team worked with the novated design team to explore best value options, specifically in relation to the construction methodology. The chosen solution was in-situ concrete; for it’s robustness, fire and acoustic properties, despite a significant programme saving offered by a steel solution. 

On-site, the Seddon management team are constructing the buildings around several site constraints. The site is bound to the west by Bedells Lane, and the east by Alderly Road, with both busy roads joining at a roundabout to the south of the site. As such, the location of the site entrance and welfare facilities have been carefully considered, with a strict traffic management plan in place. 

An operational health centre and a church span the north border of the site. Whilst the health centre has two points of access, vehicle access is required to be maintained through site when required. Within the centre’s car park, a gated entrance to the site is equipped with a doorbell to ensure access is controlled and supervised. Our site team liaise with both businesses on a weekly basis to ensure a positive relationship is maintained and disruption to their day-to-day operations is mitigated. 

The site includes existing mature trees and shaded woodland that are protected, alongside landscaped lawns and gardens. To protect these the area has been fenced off to restrict all access. The result is an extremely tight site with minimal storage space and no plant access to three sides. Deliveries are operated on a just-in-time policy, to avoid clashes and the requirement for any storage.
