CLS Care Services awarded Seddon this £9m, JCT Design & Build, competitively tendered contract, where Seddon acted as the Principle Contractor. The works were for a new, high-specification Care Home in Wigan.
Belong Wigan is a £9 million, purpose-built village that provides accommodation and support for the elderly while allowing them to live independently as part of the wider community. The village, one of ten being built across the North West by the Charity CLS Care Services, will contain 54 one-bedroom flats, 24 two-bedroom flats and 66 registered care beds designed in “family groups” to provide specialist residential, dementia or nursing care.
Belong, is an award-winning Extra Care village consisting of two three-storey blocks. Belong was awarded numerous industry awards including the Extra Care Provider category at the prestigious Laing Buisson Independent Healthcare Awards.
The Belong, Wigan, development was built to create a community and will have a number of facilities and services contained within, effectively creating a self-contained village.
Phase 1 saw the village centre and three-storey accommodation build on land behind Sherwood House care home. We built the village centre and a three-storey care home with en-suite bathrooms within six self-contained open plan, contemporary wings with a gross floor area of approximately 3,388m2, valued at £5.01m.
Phase 2 saw the design and build of two blocks of extra-care apartment over three-storeys and the previous care home demolished and 36 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom self-contained apartments with a gross floor area of approximately 4,124m2 value at £4.4m on-site adjacent to phase 1.
Works consisted of a steel-framed structure on piled foundations, eight-person passenger life installation, remote boiler house, car parking, drainage, external works and landscaping including the provision of all main services utilities and a new access road.
