Urban Outreach Church

Overview

Urban Outreach is a Christian charity based in Bolton who provide food, support and care for the homeless and vulnerable in the area. This extends to young people and families who struggle financially and will receive children’s pack lunches over the summer holidays.

Seddon have been working with the local charity and its founder, Dave Baguley, over several years and across various initiatives.

Recently, the charity’s base church needed some repairs to its celling and masonry, so they called us to ask for our expert advice and help with resolving the issue.

We sent two experienced staff members who were able to complete the works with precision while avoiding disruption to this busy community hub.

What we did

We completed masonry repairs by cutting out the bed joints, 500mm past the cracking and installed Helifix stainless steel rods, bedded in resin, crack stitching and , repointed to match the type of pointing after the resin had hardened.

The Internal beam was strengthened with 10mm thick steel plates, along with additional bolts to adhere to engineers' detail. The existing beam required propping as it had cracked.

A template had to be made for the location of existing bolts, before the new steel plates were made.

Before works started, scaffolding was erected, and the existing beam was propped.
